Students working on garden

On May 30th, Afton graduate and FFA alumni Timmy James presented to two Agricultural Education classes at Afton. He donated manure to the school garden and talked to students about the importance of nutrient rich soil for crop cultivation. Students worked to prepare the land for pumpkin plants and vegetables.

The 6th-grade Ag Tech class learned about sustainable agriculture and egg production. Students learned the difference between free range and conventional housing, as well as ventilation and proper care of chickens. He helped the students design small scale cardboard chicken coops based on what style of housing they would choose if they had a chicken farm of their own. Thank you, Mr. James for sharing your industry experience with the agricultural education program at Afton.
