Capital Project: Crimson Renaissance

The Crimson Renaissance capital project initiative is commissioned by the Afton Central School District Board of Education with the recommendation of the Interim Superintendent Dr. Terrance Dougherty. The project is focused on developing a detailed action plan which provides practical and affordable solutions to meet the facility planning objectives by drawing from the collective knowledge and expertise of the technical consultants and school personal that constitute its membership.

The Crimson Renaissance Facilities Planning Study team will develop and present an action plan to the Afton Central School District Board of Education to address our district facility's footprint in three key areas:

  • Program

  • Curricular Activities

The decision comes following weeks of planning meetings by the Crimson Renaissance Facilities Planning Study Team, which was given the assignment to review a 2020 Building Condition Survey and prioritize a number of projects for Board approval. The study team identified $12 million in impactful initiatives that fall fully within budgetary constraints and ensures no additional taxpayer expense related to the capital project. “We are proud to authorize a project that addresses immediate needs for our school community and with no additional burden on taxpayers,” said Jim Parkinson, Afton CSD Board of Education President. “This project promises a safer, more inclusive environment that prepares our students for the future.” AFTON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION AUTHORIZES CAPITAL PROJECT FOR COMMUNITY REFERENDUM Proposed $12 million plan will improve infrastructure, safety, and functionality, upgrade school facilities for optimized learning experiences, and enhance facilities to support co-curricular activities “The study team’s thorough review has pinpointed projects that will truly transform our school community,” said Dr. Terrance Dougherty, Afton CSD Interim Superintendent. “We invite the entire community to join us in making these priority projects a reality.” Board authorization is a critical step towards putting this investment opportunity up for community wide vote, which will take place on December 10, 2024. December 12 will be the alternate voting date in the event of a weather related cancellation. The community is encouraged to use this time to learn more about the project through a special section on the District website www.aftoncsd.org. It includes additional project specifics, and updates following each meeting of THE PROJECT INCLUDES: • Infrastructure, safety, and functionality improvements, enhancing accessibility, upgrading utility systems, building restoration, and optimizing transportation facilities. • Identifying space and functionality for expanded Agriculture CTE programs, a new STEAM Fab Lab, and a reimagined multimedia library for collaborative learning. • Quality and accessibility improvements to co-curricular and athletic facilities, enhancing gym environments, upgrading pool locker rooms, and ensuring ADA compliance for community engagement and safety.
