Afton Central School Mission Statement

Afton Main Entrance

Vision
Afton Central School District is committed to providing opportunities that ensure career and college readiness while meeting the diverse needs of our students and adults.

Mission Statement
Working together as a team within an environment of respect, creativity, and academic challenge, we will use all available resources to help all students learn to be responsible, productive, and eager to continue learning, while becoming prepared to meet the challenges of a diverse society.

Statement of Beliefs
Families, students, and staff want and deserve mutual respect, empathy and empowerment. Success takes everyone working together as a team (staff, parents, community members, Board of Education and administrators) for the highest levels of success to be achieved. Focus needs to always be centered around and about the students and what is best for children.

Afton Central School District

Since its beginnings in the 1800's, Afton School has built its reputation on tradition and innovation.

As a Middle States Accredited institution, ACS maximizes the expertise of its staff and the resourcefulness of its community to meet New York State's challenging academic standards.

ACS serves 550 PK-12 students within a single structure that has grown over the years as a result of the community's educational priorities.  An Elementary wing was completed in 1994, and our 2001 building project included a new auditorium, gymnasium, and library, as well as new and improved athletic fields.

This commitment to programs and facilities is a reflection of the people who live and work here.  A thriving Parent-Teacher Organization, Athletic Booster Clubs, sponsorship by SERTOMA International, and active participation in district and civic committees demonstrate that ongoing partnership.

Alma Mater

You have been told in the stories of old,
Of the gold at the rainbow's end;
Of the silver that gleams in the land of our dreams,
Where hues of the rainbow blend.

There's a place that I know where the good fellows go,
And where each loyal heart beats high;
Tho' you search where you will you'll come back to it still,
Dear old building against the sky.

For the rainbow comes down in dear Afton
In the center of Afton High.
There's a school that is worth
All the wealth of the earth
And for her we'll live and die.

In the heart of our dear Alma Mater,
'Neath the hill looking over the town.
From out the blue of the sky
into old Afton High.
That's the place that the rainbow comes down.

Town of Afton

Afton is located in Chenango County along the Susquehanna River. It lies equidistant between the cities of Oneonta and Binghamton along the Interstate 88 corridor.

With a population of 1800, the village is home to several growing production and service industries, but it is mainly a community of homes and neighbors who value the landscape and the opportunities for raising a family here.

Afton features a thriving Historical Museum, public library, youth sports organization, and Chamber of Commerce. Anchoring the village are several churches, a resident health center, a full compliment of stores and restauants, as well as proximity to state and county parks.

Central to the whole community is the school.
