District Partners with IDE Corp. for Research and Recommendations on Enhancing Student Experience

On-site Fact-finding and Focus Group Meeting Scheduled March 5th and 6th

AFTON, NY – The Afton Central School District is pleased to announce an initiative aimed at strengthening student engagement and retention. The District has partnered with IDE Corp., Innovative Designs for Education, a leading organization that collaborates with school districts across New York State, to identify strategies that will keep students engaged and ensure they stay on track for success.

IDE Corp.’s work has already started with a review of district programs and policies, preliminary conversations with District administrators and Board of Education members, and an analysis of district trends including demographic, socioeconomic, and academic performance data for school site tours

IDE Corp’s work will continue when they visit Afton on March 5 and 6, 2025 for school site tours with district and building leaders and focus groups with parents and guardians and community members.

The District is reaching out to families of currently enrolled Afton students from various backgrounds to take part in a focus group meeting on March 5th at 6:30pm in the middle/high school library aimed at gathering valuable community input. If you are interested in joining this focus group, please contact Pam Haynes at 639-8229 or phaynes@aftoncsd.org to learn more or to sign up.

"We want Afton to be a place where every student has the support they need to succeed," said Terrance Dougherty, Interim Superintendent. "By working with IDE Corp., we're making thoughtful improvements that will benefit our students, families, and the entire district for the long run."

IDE Corp. will analyze all findings and present a final report to the Board of Education and school community this Spring outlining short-term and long-term strategies for strengthening engagement and retention within the District.
